Hugo Velazquez, Chef, San Mateo

Hugo Velazquez

Hugo Velasquez started with Pacific Catch as a Prep Cook in 2003 during the opening of the Chestnut Street location. He quickly learned all aspects of the kitchen and was soon promoted to Kitchen Supervisor. In 2005, Hugo was asked to join Executive Chef, Joanna Perel, in opening the second Pacific Catch location in Corte Madera. He gained a great deal of knowledge and experience while working with Joanna but was asked to return to Chestnut Street to work alongside the new General Manager, Rob Schechtman. In 2007, Hugo was promoted to Sous Chef and given the responsibility of managing the operations of the Chestnut Street kitchen. When the third Pacific Catch location, 9th and Lincoln, was scheduled to open in December of 2007, Hugo was asked to help get the kitchen in working order. Hugo has returned to Chestnut Street where you can find him eating his favorite meal, California Salmon Sandwich and Cabo Calamari.

Hugo was born in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico but was raised in Jalisco. He graduated from the University of Guadalajara before coming to San Francisco in January of 2003. He still resides in the City with his beautiful wife and two lovely sons. Hugo enjoys participating in activities related to his culture and traditions, playing soccer, listening to music, and reading a good book.
